In this edition of the Mayor’s Corner, Mayor Reardon begins by wishing everyone a Happy St. Patrick’s Day weekend! He discusses how three pedestrians have been hit on crosswalks in the past month. He is asking everyone to stay alert, slow down and be safe when driving in and around the City. The Mayor’s Mental Health Task Force met this week to go over the results of a needs assessment put together by the Institute for Community Health. Mayor Reardon updates us on the Whittier Building Project. The Whittier School Task Force made up of municipal leaders of member communities met here at City Hall on Wednesday, March 6th to discuss potential updates to the regional agreement from 1967. The next meeting will be held on April 3rd at 3:30 p.m. at Amesbury City Hall. The City Council approved a gift from the Mayor Gayden W, Morrill Charitable Foundation on Monday night. The gift of $110,000 will be used for the Bartlet Mall Restoration Project. The project will still be on hold while the administration works to identify other funding. There will be a Community Services City Council Subcommittee meeting focusing on the NBPT Rec building at 59 Low Street on March 18th at 5:00 p.m. at City Hall. This meeting will focus on engineering and finances. Mayor Reardon received a call from U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren earlier in the week to let him know that Newburyport will receive $883,000 in federal money, earmarked to help protect the city’s water supply. This funding was made possible by Senator Warren and Senator Edward Markey. Finally, Mayor Reardon asks for positive thoughts and well wishes for Ana Lynch, a senior at NHS, who was involved is a ski accident while on vacation with her family in Montana.
