In this edition of the Mayor’s Corner, Mayor Reardon updates us on the latest on the Whittier Building Project. Whittier Superintendent Maureen Lynch invited the district officials/leaders for a meeting on Tuesday to de-brief on the recent “no” vote. Each leader spoke candidly about the process that led to this outcome. Moving forward, Mayor Reardon has requested to create a Whittier Task Force made up of the district leaders to update the regional agreement that is over 50 years old, to take a thoughtful look at the building and come up with a reasonable plan and to engage state elected officials to get involved with the MSBA process. These goals are complicated and involve 11 communities, so this will not be a quick fix. This task force will keep the collaboration moving forward within the district communities. Mayor Reardon offers his congratulations to the Anna Jaques Hospital and its nurses for reaching an agreement for a three-year contract on Monday. In disappointing news, bids for the restoration of the Bartlet Mall came in much higher than anticipated. Mayor Reardon is planning to table the project as the permits are good for three years. He will release the CPC funds allocated for this project, and continue to look for other funding sources. Mayor Reardon is looking for volunteers on the City’s many Boards and Commissions. If interested, please visit the Boards and Commissions page on the City website. Mayor Reardon ends with his best wishes to NHS winter sports teams. Go Clippers!
