The City of Newburyport shares that Peyton Laine, an international expert in the realm of waste reduction and circular economy development, met with the City’s Recycling, Energy and Sustainability Office about pioneering strategies aimed at advancing waste reduction practices.
Peyton is CEO and Founder of Mind the Chain, developing a supply chain and material assessment software platform applying circular economy methodologies to product development and reuse methodologies. Her conversations with Sustainability Director Molly Ettenborough focused on harnessing Newburyport’s potential to implement sustainable waste management solutions, fostering a circular economy model that maximizes resource efficiency while minimizing environmental impact.
Mayor Sean Reardon expressed enthusiasm about the visit, stating, “We were thrilled to welcome Peyton whose insights and proven track record in waste reduction through circular economy frameworks align perfectly with our city’s commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.”
The visit is intended to help the City possibly envision fresh ways to mitigate waste generation and promote a more sustainable future.
Meetings were coordinated by the Alliance of Climate and Environmental Stewards. Laine came to Newburyport to visit with family members.
Laine said, “I am pleased be visiting my local family members and pleased that ACES has helped us engage in this preliminary way with City of Newburyport in advancing their goals for sustainable waste management. Together, we have the opportunity globally to transform challenges into opportunities, forging a circular economy that not only benefits the environment but also enhances economic vitality within the community.”
By leveraging expertise and fostering local engagement, Newburyport aims to emerge as a trailblazer in sustainable urban practices.
