On Sunday, July 24, the Senior/Community Center, 331 High St. will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mayor Sean Reardon thanks the Council on Aging for extending the Center’s hours to serve the public.
Extreme heat is a prolonged period of very hot weather, which may include high humidity. In Massachusetts, a “heat wave” is usually defined as a period of three or more consecutive days above 90 degrees. Temperatures are currently forecast at a high of over 90 degrees through Sunday with a heat index over 100 degrees. Humidity levels above 45% are also expected multiple days this week.
You can find more information and safety tips for a heat wave here.
Extreme temperatures also are expected to severely strain the power grid. In the event of an outage, please contact National Grid directly at 1-800-465-1212.
Residents with issues related to any outage are asked to call Newburyport Police at 978-462-4411, Newburyport Fire at 978- 465-4427, or 911 in an emergency.
