The City’s Department of Public Services (DPS) has been working to fix the mistakes on High Street resulting from poor workmanship by the City’s line striping contractor. Using a special piece of equipment, the bike lanes were removed from High Street over several nights the week of September 2nd. Core samples of the area where the paint was removed were sent to be analyzed by company that specializes in pavement preservation. Despite the discoloration, the analysis concluded that the integrity of the road remains intact. Nevertheless, DPS is taking extra precaution to apply a bituminous sealant recommended by the pavement analysis company that will provide additional protection. This product is suitable for both vehicular and bicycle traffic.
The sealant will be applied by the City’s paving contractor (NOT the striping contractor). This will be overnight work and High Street will be closed. The City will post dates once the work is scheduled.
As mentioned, the line striping company is liable and responsible for covering all costs associated with fixing their mistakes.
We appreciate your patience as we work through this issue. DPS and the City share the public’s disappointment in this project and has been working hard to resolve the issues.
